Direct start tutorial

Introduction

A direct start signals when the motor starts to operate as soon as the VFD turns on. This assembly is beneficial for applications requiring a continuous operation and a restart after a power cut. (Mainly used for ventilation or pumping.)

Wiring

                Power

The VFD power supply is provided by RT terminals for a single-phase and by RLT for a three-phase. To protect the VFD, we recommend you to take a look at our article “How to protect your variable frequency drive“. The motor is connected to the VFD output at UVW terminals. You must remember to connect the equipotential bonding, commonly known as earth, to the motor and the VFD power supply.

                Command

Since the operation is continuous, there should be no contact to turn on the motor. Therefore, you must connect the COM terminal to the DI1 terminal.
